Job Description Heat Treatment Technical Authority with Stork:

 

Heat Treatment Engineer within the Industrial & Mechanical division responsible for providing general and specialist technical support for heat treatment services within Stork UK.

 

The Heat Treatment Engineer will ensure that all technical and safety requirements for performing heat treatment operations, including client and code requirements, are complied with through authoring procedures, performing code checks and assessments where required, and providing support to field technicians.

 

Tasks and Responsibilities as Heat Treatment Technical Authority:

 

Essential:

 

  • Detailed understanding of standard site based heat treatment processes and applications, including equipment types and operational implementation of all aspects of heat treatment processes.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of application of low voltage ceramic pad heaters, medium voltage Channel elements, and combustion heating equipment typically used for Preheat, Bakeout, PWHT, Refractory Dryout and Solution Treatment applications.
  • In depth technical knowledge of equipment used for such heat treatments.
  • Ability to interpret and understand fabrication codes (ASME BPVC, B31.3, PD 5500, etc.) and client heat treatment requirements. Knowledge and understanding of commonly applied heat treatment standards/ practices such as AWS D10.10, and WRC452.
  • Experienced in writing heat treatment procedures which are in accordance with code and client requirements. Ability to develop complex heat treatment solutions and prepare procedures accordingly.
  • Detailed understanding of safety requirements for heat treatment operations (including combustion), with input into or production of Risk Assessment Method Statement (RAMS) documents.
  • Knowledge of codes, standards, best practices, regulations, and certification requirements for heat treatment equipment.
  • Ability to specify heat treatment equipment inclusive of furnaces, heaters, thermal insulation,  transformers, burners etc.
  • Experience of using 2D CAD design software (AutoCAD preferable) for the production of diagrams and drawings as part of heat treatment procedures.
  • Good understanding of heat transfer theory, and simple structural mechanics and ability to carry out manual calculations of the same.
  • Good understanding of basic electrical theory

 

Desirable:

 

  • Understanding of metallurgy and welding processes.
  • Experience of using FEA software (ANSYS preferable) to perform technical assessments inclusive of transient thermal, static structural, and eigenvalue buckling.
  • Knowledge of permanent furnaces, control panels, furnace maintenance including inspection, calibration and temperature surveys , spares replacement, and commissioning.
  • Experience of developing and maintaining in-house procedures and standards, following latest industry best practices, guidance, and local regulations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of PID based temperature control, and equipment.

 

Miscellaneous Competencies

 

Essential:

 

  • Experience in a client interface role.
  • Ability to travel to client facilities for performing site surveys, troubleshooting, and field engineering support.
  • Maintains and develops knowledge in heat treatment, including awareness of new market products and safety notices.
  • Develops the competency of junior and graduate level engineers in heat treatment through on the job training, mentoring, and constructive feedback.
  • Develops the competency of heat treatment field technicians to ensure that safe working practices are adhered to and followed.
  • Providing input into heat treatment related incidents and root cause reviews, to establish lessons learned and improvement opportunities.
  • Able to travel throughout the United Kingdom and internationally to support clients at their sites and offices.

 

Desirable:

 

  • Experience in tendering/ responding to Request for Quotations (RFQ’s) for heat treatment related services.
  • Produce cost and time estimates for the delivery of heat treatment scopes, including identifying required deliverables and engaging third party equipment vendors.
  • Support Business Development and Marketing activities as required.

Specific Requirements for the Heat Treatment Technical Authority:

 

Education & Experience

 

  • Moderate experience in an engineering position for heat treatment, or a related role.
  • Experience in performing or supporting field heat treatment applications.
  • One of the following qualification levels:
    • A Bachelor of Engineering or Science degree.
    • EWF / IIW Welding Diploma, Engineer level.
    • TWI Diploma in Welding Engineering, Engineer level.
    • HNC in an engineering subject with 10+ years’ experience.
  • Membership and accreditation with, or working towards, an engineering institute preferred (EngTech, IEng, or CEng).
