Job Description Mechanical Fitter with Altrad:
The Mechanical Fitter supports the delivery of the Group’s business objectives by working in accordance with company standards and departmental procedures.
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Fitter to service, maintain, repair, and prepare a wide range of air-operated tooling and associated equipment. The role involves hands-on mechanical work within a workshop environment, ensuring all equipment is safe, reliable, and ready for operational use.
The successful candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, experience working with pneumatic systems, and the ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical faults efficiently.
Tasks and Responsibilities as Mechanical Fitter:
Equipment Maintenance & Repair
- Service, inspect, and repair air-operated hand tools and pneumatic equipment
- Maintain and overhaul blast pots and abrasive blasting equipment
- Maintain diaphragm pumps and fluid transfer equipment
- Diagnose mechanical and pneumatic faults and carry out effective repairs
- Test equipment to ensure safe and correct operation after repair
Inspection & Preparation
- Carry out pre-hire and post-hire inspections of equipment
- Prepare equipment for deployment to customer sites
- Clean, refurbish, and recondition returned equipment
- Ensure all equipment meets safety and quality standards
- Assist with PUWER compliance and ensuring that all is in accordance to applicable legislation
Workshop Operations
- Work safely and efficiently within a workshop environment
- Maintain clean and organised work areas
- Use workshop tools and lifting equipment safely
- Accurately record work completed, parts used, and service history in asset management system ePlantTrack.
- Support stock control of spare parts and consumables

Specific Requirements for the Mechanical Fitter:
Education & Experience
Essential
- Standard Grades (or equivalent), commensurate experience with the role and have demonstrated an appropriate level of technical competence.
Desirable
- Forklift Experience
Experience and Skills
Essential
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter or similar role
- Strong mechanical fault-finding skills
- Experience working with pneumatic systems and air-powered equipment
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and diagrams
- Competent using workshop tools and measuring equipment
- Good understanding of mechanical components and assemblies
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Desirable
- Previous experience in a similar role in the Oil and Gas Industry.
- Experience with blasting equipment and surface preparation tools
- Experience with spray systems and coating equipment
- Knowledge of fluid handling systems and pumps
